Ocean Waves of Shells and Buttons — Mixed-Media Assemblage

This original mixed-media assemblage by Sarasota artist Debra Rich depicts an ocean wave built from layered seashells and a graduated wash of blue buttons, set against a cut-paper backdrop. Handcrafted from buttons, necklaces, shells, beads, and found objects, the piece began as a collage and evolved into a richly textured, three-dimensional assemblage. The layered materials and graduated blues create the movement and energy of an ocean wave, while the shells and found objects add dimension and visual detail. Finished and ready to hang.
