In this photograph, which I titled Juárez in the background, one sees the UTEP pick, and in the background one can see Juárez. I took this photograph because of what is happening there; I'm on this side of the border, and Juárez is on the other side. The first time that I saw UTEP was from the other side of the border, and that side of the border is known to be a marginalized area of the city. Hence, the reason behind me choosing this photograph, whenever I'm on campus, I remember where I cross from every time I attend my classes/seminars. What makes things the way they are is man-made physical and political borders. In this sense, this image represents that we, UTEP students, cross from that side of the border to get our education in a different country, even when this may seem a simple thing. The fact that the border is there should be a reminder of inequalities and privilege.
