Shelves of Earthen Memory

A carefully composed still-life photograph presents several tiers of rustic wooden shelving crowded with handmade ceramic vessels. Mugs, pitchers, jars, bowls, and lidded pots vary in silhouette and surface, from softly mottled stoneware to boldly banded and incised forms. The repeated horizontal shelves create a steady rhythm, while the irregular placement and visible wear of the pottery give the setting the intimate character of a working studio or traditional market.
