The Offering of Autumn

A richly painted tableau presents two dark-haired women in flowing teal and blue garments, one extending a small golden fruit while the other cradles a basket of grapes, pomegranates, apples, and leaves. Their poised gestures and direct, contemplative gazes give the scene a ceremonial intimacy, while the winding foliage and luminous window-like opening create a shallow, decorative setting. Lustrous fabric, carefully modeled faces, and symbolic harvest imagery recall the romantic elegance of late nineteenth-century illustration and Pre-Raphaelite painting.
