Teofilo Callos Garcia is a Manlilikha ng Bayan from San Quintin, Abra, recognized in 2012 for his mastery of making the traditional kattukong, or tabungaw. Made from a native gourd, the tabungaw is both a practical headpiece and an example of Filipino traditional craftsmanship. Through his dedication to the craft, Garcia has helped keep the knowledge of tabungaw-making alive and has introduced it to new generations. “Shaped by Tradition” explores not only the finished tabungaw, but also the materials, techniques, creativity, and cultural knowledge behind it.
