Carved Face in Shadow

A horizontally oriented carved wooden mask rests against a pale ground, its elongated form assembled from rounded facial volumes, inset openings, and raised geometric bands. Dark brown wood carries traces of ochre and black pigment, while repeated triangular borders and diamond motifs sharpen the otherwise softened contours. Strong side lighting casts a crisp shadow, emphasizing the object’s sculptural relief and giving the ceremonial form a quiet, enigmatic presence.
