Garden of Floating Figures

A dreamlike figurative painting presents two nude women amid curling hair, drifting blossoms, and oversized pink flowers. One figure reclines within a cloudlike gray-blue form while the central figure stands poised on a broad shell or petal, her copper hair streaming across the pale sky. The floral screen at right, marked with delicate branchwork and calligraphic forms, introduces an Art Nouveau and Japonist atmosphere, while the flattened space and ornamental contours lend the scene a mythic, theatrical stillness.
