Love but old

A richly detailed Victorian narrative painting presents two lovers poised on a brick balcony, their intertwined embrace set against patterned windows, hanging fabric, flowering foliage, and a distant cityscape. The woman's luminous yellow gown contrasts with the man's sweeping crimson costume, while the extended arm and trailing rope introduce a sense of urgent theatrical movement. Ornamental surfaces, expressive gestures, and carefully rendered architectural details give the scene the heightened romance of a literary drama.
