Guardian of the Shadowed Marsh

A tightly framed wildlife portrait centers on a great white pelican, its enormous weathered bill descending through the composition while the bird fixes the viewer with an alert, almost inquisitive stare. Fine feather detail catches a narrow wash of light against a deep, softly blurred green-black setting, giving the subject a sculptural presence and a quiet theatricality. The tousled crest and folded wings add character to the otherwise monumental pose.
