Shift Beneath the Mountain

A cinematic, photorealistic scene follows a group of coal miners pushing a loaded cart from the São Pedro da Cova mine beneath a brooding evening sky. The workers emerge from a rough stone entrance in worn uniforms and illuminated helmets, while rails, industrial buildings, spoil heaps, and the skeletal headframe recede toward rugged hills and a scattered village. The low viewpoint and strong foreground detail give the scene a weighty, documentary sense of labor and place.
