This scene from the movie is a reference to Act II Scene II, which is the balcony scene where Romeo and Juliet confess their love for each other. Act II Scene II states, "JULIET: O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name, Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I’ll no longer be a Capulet." Unlike in Romeo and Juliet, in this scene of the movie Sophie and Charlie are not battling family feuds. Instead, this scene reveals a sense of love, romance, and fate, replacing the dark and intense scene in Romeo and Juliet with a more comedic and light-hearted take.
