A richly textured garden scene places a small brown teddy bear in the foreground beside a dark, reclining form, while a monumental black stepped structure rises toward the center of the composition. Blue flowering shrubs and vivid green foliage surround the structure beneath a deep navy sky, with a pale bloom or moonlike form breaking the upper-right darkness. Broad, tactile marks and simplified forms give the painting a dreamlike, storybook character, balancing playful subject matter with an enigmatic, almost ceremonial setting.
