Portrait in Burning Orange

A commanding frontal portrait fills the canvas, rendered with broad, tactile strokes and emphatic black contours. The sitter’s carefully shaped hair, mustache, beard, raised hand, and richly layered clothing emerge against a lively orange ground marked by loose gestural sweeps. Facial planes are built from ochre, brown, cream, and violet passages, giving the expression a direct, searching intensity while the saturated garments anchor the lower composition with strong blocks of burgundy, green, gold, and charcoal.
