River of Memory

A childlike commemorative drawing arranges Arabic calligraphy, an open book, books and a feather beside a winding blue river that leads toward a soldier standing under the Egyptian flag. Birds cross the turquoise sky, while a glowing ochre sun or hillside anchors the upper-right scene. Hand-drawn outlines, visible coloring strokes, and symbolic scale give the work the directness of naïve illustration and the feeling of a personal patriotic remembrance.
