Butterfly at the Threshold

A tightly cropped portrait turns inward as a dark-haired figure holds a butterfly near parted lips, their gaze slipping toward the glowing ochre space beyond the frame. Warmly modeled facial planes and oversized, watchful eyes give the subject an alert, almost ceremonial presence, while gold drips descend through the hair and background like melted ornament. Violet clothing and the richly patterned lower border add a decorative counterpoint to the deep shadows, creating a work that feels intimate, enigmatic, and slightly otherworldly.
