Guardian of the Infernal Gate

A frontal, theatrical demon-like figure dominates the composition, crowned with an ornate pointed headdress and framed by sweeping dark hair. Bulging eyes, curling fangs, an extended tongue, clawed hands, and striped limbs create a deliberately grotesque presence, while flames rise across the lower foreground and a nearly black, textured ground closes behind it. The work uses a richly modeled, old-master-inspired fantasy treatment, with concentrated highlights on the face, hands, and fire against deep shadows.
