Oni Beneath the Shadow

A frontal oni mask emerges from a nearly black ground, its sweeping horns, heavy brows, glaring eyes, and bared teeth rendered with the solemn presence of an aged ritual object. Dense surface marks suggest carved wood or worked metal, while concentrated highlights along the brow, cheeks, and muzzle give the face a sculptural relief. The tightly centered composition and deep surrounding darkness create an imposing, ceremonial stillness.
