Roses Over the Sugar Skull

A frontal sugar-skull portrait commands the composition, its ivory face covered with curling floral ornaments, jeweled-like eye sockets, turquoise lips, and dangling round earrings. Three richly modeled red roses crown the head, while a striped collar and dark ground frame the symmetrical mask. The decorative treatment recalls Mexican Día de los Muertos folk imagery, rendered with softly textured brushwork and an intimate, ceremonial presence.
