A drawing my younger sister made. On the left, a villa, a pool, and two stick figures: me and my sister. The right side is empty on purpose. A child inside a compound doesn’t see a boundary. She sees a normal world where every house has a pool and every road is clean, so she can’t imagine what exists past the gate. That is how class gets passed down, not through anyone explaining it, but through what a child sees every day and what she never gets to see. From inside, it feels normal. From outside, it looks like a world built to be complete without everyone else.
