Grief Beside the Bed

A stark black-and-white interior centers on a hunched figure with her face buried in her hands, seated beside a rumpled bed or sickbed. A second figure recedes into the shadowed room near the window, while dense crosshatching turns the walls, blankets, and furniture into a compressed field of darkness. The intimate arrangement and limited light give the scene the gravity of private mourning.
